Year to Date

It has been a hot minute since I updated this section and I apologize for that.

This year has seen its fair share of ups and downs. The lows have been devastating and the highs are maybe not what we thought they would have been a year ago by this time, but we are working through the most complicated time in our lives to the best of our ability.

As you may know, I lost my childhood best friend, Linda, to breast cancer in March. Instead of letting grief completely take over, I took it as an opportunity to turn it into something that would benefit others still fighting their battles.

My husband, Mike, and I decided to raise money for three organizations. At Linda’s family’s request, we chose The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (H&S), along with where Linda worked, Keystone Child, Youth, and Family Services Centre, and The Breast Cancer Society of Canada (BSC)

During the fundraiser, 100% of the purchase price of Hampton Rose soap and $5 from each new sweater and t-shirt designed by me went to the BSC. Half of the proceeds from the other Khala Naturals products were donated to HS and Keystone.

All in all, over $4300 was donated to these organizations.

In late summer, I finally made the decision to donate blood. Cancer patients can need up to five transfusions during their course of chemotherapy. It was another way to help those battling cancer and because of Covid-19, donations in Canada are at an all-time low. I discovered the I am B negative blood type which only 1.4% of Canadians possess. “B-negative red blood cells can be used to help patients with B-negative, B-positive. AB-negative and AB-positive blood types — nearly 12% of the population.” (Taken from blood.ca)
